Впрочем, этот исход ему предсказывают карты, разложенные Бланш.► 1-й фильм Фейдера после его возвращения из Голливуда. Фейдер вписывает в жанр колониального фильма чисто индивидуалистскую любовную драму; избавленную от политики и пропитанную фатализмом. В этом отношении Большая игра оказала значительное влияние на Карне, работавшего 1-м ассистентом режиссера на фильме, и может считаться подлинной точкой отсчета в истории «поэтического реализма». Фильм полностью лишен патриотических ноток, не несет в себе никаких следов идеологии колониализма того времени и, следовательно, не состарился вместе с ней. Абстрактное и строго эмоциональное использование декораций и географических объектов, где происходит действие, связано с опытом, полученным Фейдером в Америке. В этом фильм гораздо ближе к Марокко, Morocco Штернберга, чем к Трое из Сен-Сира, Trois de Saint-Cyr. Сильная сторона фильма - превосходная актерская игра - как в главных, так и в небольших ролях. Гениальной находкой Фейдера стала композиционная роль Ирмы; на внешность Мари Белл был наложен голос другой актрисы, и этот дубляж был тщательно проработан. Работая в Голливуде, Фейдер готовил экранизацию пьесы Пиранделло «Такая, как ты хочешь» (см. его книгу «Кино, наша профессия» [Jacques Feyder, Le cinema, notre metier]) и предложил для определенного фрагмента роли дублировать Гарбо другим голосом. Но сделать этого ему не позволили, и он прекратил работу над фильмом (фильм был снят позднее Джорджем Фицморисом). В Большой игре, отдаленно вдохновленной пьесой Пиранделло, Фейдер вернулся к этому приему. В дальнейшем эта находка много раз была повторена в других фильмах, но без каких-либо особо интересных результатов; здесь же она работает не только на образ главной героини, но и на сюжет в целом. Прежде всего она не без определенной парадоксальности убирает из сюжета все сходство с Пиранделло, усиливая мощь, точность и конкретность повествования, поскольку становится очевидно (для всех, кроме героя), что Ирма и Флоранс - разные люди. Помимо этого, новый прием помогает Мари Белл сыграть персонаж (Ирму), не вполне соответствующий ее амплуа. Поручив роль Ирмы 2 актрисам (одна работала телом, другая - голосом), Фейдер значительно обогатил сложный характер персонажа. Кроме того, он сумел подобрать идеальное сочетание. Многие актеры и актрисы в истории кинематографа имели возможность доказать свою виртуозность, сыграв 2 или несколько ролей в одном фильме. Здесь же для создания одного персонажа (Ирмы) потребовались усилия 2 актрис (Мари Белль и Клод Марси). 40 лет спустя далеким и более совершенным отголоском этой находки становится последний фильм Бунюэля Этот смутный объект желания, Cet obscur objet du desir, 1977. Там обстоятельства и вечная изобретательность старого режиссера приводят к тому, что главную роль исполняют 2 актрисы, но на сей раз на экране появляются обе.N.В. Клод Марси, голос Мари Белл в роли Ирмы, дублировала фильмы с Гретой Гарбо. Она была актрисой, писательницей, сочиняла песни и диалоги к сценариям, вышла замуж за Шарля Спака, затем - за Анри Жансона. Вполне насыщенная жизнь. Одноименный ремейк фильма Фейдера снят Сиодмаком (1954) в цвете. В этой совместной франко-итальянской картине Арлетти играет роль Франсуазы Розэ, а Джина Лоллобриджида - роль Мари Белл. Это одна из самых невыразительных картин режиссера. -
